The intricate patterns that adorn the illuminated manuscripts of the Celts can be learned surprisingly easily, following the methods of the medieval scribes. Starting from simple knots, design and complete your own monogram or illuminated letter. Participants will learn about Celtic decoration and script styles, and be guided in creating their own artwork. First time participants will design their own monogram or illuminated capital, while returning students may choose from a wide range of designs and ideas.

About the artist:

I grew up in the border country of England and Wales, in an area of outstanding natural beauty and surrounded by the artistic and spiritual traditions of the Celts and Anglo-Saxons. I studied at Manchester Polytechnic (formerly the Manchester School of Art), receiving an Honours degree in the History of Design. A member of St. Matthew’s for nine years, I continue to pursue a path of artistic and spiritual discovery, and teach pencil drawing and Celtic art.
