Trinity, does it make sense? One God or three Gods?

It is sometimes said that to try to understand the trinity is to lose ones mind, to deny it is to lose ones soul. But it's more than a "just accept it" thing. It is fundamental to our understanding of Gods nature. God the creator made the vastness of the universe, the intricacy of tiny flowers, the smile of an infant human. But he did this with the Son and the Spirit, together. In Genesis "The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters". In John's. Gospel "In the beginning was the word, .. He existed in the beginning with God". Jesus and the Spirit were never separate and existed right from the start. It is a lot to get our heads around.

In Genesis it refers to God creating man and woman in his image, are there clues to the nature of the trinity in us, his creation. I think so, we have been and will be different as we go through life, education, careers, marriage, parenthood.  Different people see different aspects of us all, depending on the relationship, circumstances, context. And we see the same in our relationships with Jesus, the Father, the Spirit. God is versatile, able to comfort us at difficult times, rejoicing with us in the good times. Able to lead us when we are confused and lost, journey with us into uncharted times.

At the start of Johns gospel we are told of the Word, not three Words, one Word. If we find it easy to love and relate to Jesus, we can do the same with the Father who shared His deep love and empathy with his followers. The Spirit brings all of this into our present age and human condition. The Spirit is, shares all of God's nature, equips us whilst at the same time channelling Gods love into us. One God. To be adored and loved, and only partly understood. But I can live with that.
